» DarkDaze 2008 pt 1

Well this is it, hopefully the inaugural post for the new look site, it may take some time to get this right, as my button pressing skills are limited to only a few applications but here goes.

So January is nearly over, in less than 4 days I fly out to California with the Heavy Artillery crew, for the longest trip yet. Last year was a banger, and produced the amazing LA TakeDown wall and some SupaDope pictures too, but this year it’s bigger and better, rollin not just thru LA but also San Francisco and San Diego too. Not sure how 7 egos are going to fit into one minivan but that’s one of those interesting unknowns I guess. I cant wait to get to San Francisco again, not only do the brew some of the finest beer in the world, but I love taking street shots there, its such a weird mix of crackheads, tourists, hookers, office workers and proud friendly people, all thrown into a city that’s more European in design than many of its closest neighbours. You can walk pretty much everywhere and if not there’s always the brilliant bus system. The bus in SF, as in many US cities is that leveller of people, where the acid tweaked sits next to the school kids, and the workers stand next to the tourists. Plus it’s a great city to shoot in, as it just looks so familiar in a ‘downtown’ sense, and hopefully adds some of its own character to the image.

Anyway I am ahead of myself already cos we aint even left Brighton yet.

Back to the site change, I am goin to trim down the main site to about 80 or so images, this means that those of you that come to see the regular updates may be a bit lost, but don’t worry I will still post all the updates here, and more regularly I hope, plus everything will be linked to my regular Flickr account so you can leave comments etc as normal. The rest of the site will be more dedicated to portfolio work, plus I will be using this blog to keep everyone posted on the trip, what the crew are up to, and what I am shooting. Also there is a place to leave comments in here, and ask questions etc, it may be a bit easier than using mail, as I know that I am not to good at getting back to everyone when they have questions on essays they are writing or equipment q’s- I do appreciate you all getting in touch but I get a bit caught up in the ‘next thing’ to get back to people in time, sorry. I will try and post the random pics in here that wouldn’t normally make it onto the site, and the polaroids etc, so I will start with this pic from a few weeks back. It doesn’t need too much description except to say that HA crew don’t believe in half steps, go big or go home, so with that attitude, sitting at home tattooing your own leg seems like a fairly normal option. When its finished I will post the full pic, the inscription says Love and Hate, which is all the words you need.

Love and Haight
