» New Book out….
well actually you see its not… I wanted to have a book out for Christmas, you know one of those slick numbers, that rounds up whats been happening but I just cant get it done in time, mainly due to the new Studio which is brilliant but means my personal work is taking a back seat, 14 hr working days dont leave much time for other stuff… (and whilst I am on that one just lettin you know all next years courses will be announced here soon and on the Garage site- got a whole host of dope teachers, and I will also be doing the Studio Lighting course, so book with us….)
But also i cant figure out what to put in it, first up I was just going with a straight photo/write up of the 2 Heavy Artillery trips to Cali that I was lucky to be a part of, but some misunderstandings left that stalled, then when the hard drive died all the layouts etc died with it.
Then I got caught looking at all those UK hiphop shots, the early days of RareKind, behind the scenes with Skinnyman, NYC before it all became paste-ups, the shoots for Indelible and Undercover, backstage with Raekwon and chillin in a hotel room with Jazzy Jeff and Dead Prez, several years of BBoy Championships, but thats weeks of scanning and neg hunting…
Or there are the years of Brighton Graffiti, but then that pfffffPrestel book came out, and there didnt seem much point. I keep looking over at my boxes and boxes of Polaroids, and my Polaroid wall thinking “hell there is something in there, I should edit those down…”
Or there are the shots of girls, the Ophelia Fancy shoots, the outtakes, the SJ and Burning Angel and the girls in Cali getting painted, and Sally in the doorway….
and then I kinda figured what I knew I was putting off for so long… its gotta be Sally surely…..
The graff book can wait, its still the “new/old big underground/everywhere media hop-on thing”, everyones auctioning and selling and copying someone else, and its an epidemic- and I’ve never been one to get my timing on point when it comes to selling. (By the way thats why I love diehards like the HA crew- resolute to the end, not following trends just steadily piling up the numbers of things they kill the game at….sure maybe they rock an occasional canvas or commission but no phoney sniffed up, media led, agency cash rush dash London Christmas show for them- just straight up eye drillin pieces, in the cold, with no ad tie-in….oh shit i am ranting again… )
So anyways maybe it should be a sally book, you wanna see all those pics in one Limited book, if yr interested let me know, and if I get enough numbers (but not too many mind you) then I will ask her and see where it goes, and i will dig thru drives and scan ‘roids and see what I can lay my hands on…
is that too indulgent? i dunno, lets see how it takes shape, maybe…. but i’ll work on it, but if your into it really let me know, just drop a comment or use the contact page , the first DarkDaze book to ever be put out… might be kinda cool.

Rankin’s, Tuulitastic style book of Sally would be real nice – recommend a look at that one, bit self-indulgent but well deserved!
Nice body of work from you this year – if the book’s died a death, how about resorting to selling snappy-snaps calendars? ha!

You put out a book, I’ll buy it. Sally’s by far my favorite, wouldn’t at all mind having a book of her on my shelf.
But I will say, much as I love Sally, you’ve a huge body of excellent work, why limit it to just one (admittedly amazing) model?
Why not a retrospective of your work thus far? Best of the best, no matter the subject?

i’m definitely interested in the HA book. you’ve been teasing us with that for a while. i understand the hard drive issue, and i agree with you about the timing of it all. i can wait on it, i have already.
the sally book would be amazing! you have so many different styles of shots with her, it’d be easy.
i am with lou though…i think a ‘best of’ would be proper. with all the different styles you have, there’s a cohesiveness to your shots that would make it work real well.

Hey man, sounds like your in a bit of a dilemma here. I’m guessing it comes down to what you want to do with it, if you want sell it in numbers then a kind of best of would probably be more commercially viable and will fly off the shelves, but if your doing it more for yourself (and that doesn’t make it self indulgent, it just means it’s something that means a lot to you) then go with Sally book.
Either way whatever you do is going to be smoking hot and I’ll buy either, in fact, fuck it, do each of the ideas and I’ll but them both.
